In 1984 the  “Birkin” bag was created by Jean-Louis Dumas simply because of a conversation on an airplane trip between an actress/singer named “Jane Birkin” and Jean-Louis.  Jane explained her needs in a luxurious yet functional bag and so began the makings of “Birkin”  Each bag is crafted by artisans who spend a minimum of 18 hours on each piece.  One artisan creates and assembles the entire bag.  Every bag has a unique code claiming the year it was made, where it was manufactured and the artisan responsible for it creation.
